The Writer's Room Features What We Did On Our Holiday Shooting Script

Fans of David Tennant's 2014 family comedy What We Did On Our Holiday may be interested to know that the shooting script is available to download via the BBC script archive The Writer's Room.

The film was written and directed by Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin, the creators of the BBC sitcom Outnumbered, with which it shared a similar semi-improvised creative process. In posting the script the writers have added a note:

This script is shorter than it looks because much of the fast, naturalistic dialogue will involve interruptions, people talking over each other, simultaneous dialogue, etc. Anything in bold & italics is an improvisation. Sometimes we have written out dialogue to give a feel of what kind of improv it could be, sometimes we have just given a general description.

What We Did On Our Holiday follows a family in crisis as they attempt to put their differences aside for a trip to Scotland to celebrate the birthday of an elderly relative. David Tennant, Rosamund Pike and Billy Connolly star, with Ben Miller, Amelia Bullmore and Celia Imrie.

UK viewers will be able to see What We Did On Our Holiday on its terrestrial TV debut when it airs on BBC Two over the New Year as part of a short season of BBC Films premieres.
