It's time for our annual review of David Tennant's year. Over the next couple of days we'll be taking a a look back at some of the best memories of 2016. We start today with January.

The year 2016 began with a return to the London stage for David, with a reprisal of his award winning portrayal of Richard II for the RSC's King & Country event. He played in residence at The Barbican for just 9 dates across January.
David appeared on The Andrew Marr Show alongside director Greg Doran to discuss the play and the RSC's plans to mark Shakespeare's 400th anniversary.

David also took part in the King & Country Talk Series held at the Barbican Centre to complement the King & Country play cycle.

He popped up  on TV favourites Room 101, where he condemned his own South African accent to oblivion, and Jamie & Jimmy's Friday Night Feast, to whip up an ink squid risotto. He also made a cameo on Derren Brown: Pushed To The Edge.

David got another nomination for Best Drama Performance at the National Television Awards for his role in Broadchurch as DI Alec Hardy. He lost out on the award to Doctor Foster's Suranne Jones but popped up on a tribute video for Billy Connolly who received the Special Recognition award.

David attended a press launch for the BBC's Shakespeare Festival. The launch included further details on Shakespeare Live! From The RSC, the unique event hosted by David Tennant at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon.

96 Ways To Say I Love You, the comedy short with a twist written and directed by Daisy Aitkens, became available to watch online.
David Tennant plays Mark in the 11-minute film, one of a number of couples trying to explain the meaning and implications of the phrase 'I Love You', set against the background story of Al and Olive (Joel Fry and Georgia Moffett, who also produced the film) who are trying to pluck up the courage to speak those three words for the first time.
