Shakespeare Live! Hosted By David Tennant To Be Shown In Cinemas



Shakespeare Live! hosted by David Tennant is to be screened live in cinemas across the UK and Europe on 23rd April. The two hour event, will take place at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon and will also be broadcast live on BBC Two.
The new cinema screenings will see it aired to around 290 cinemas in the UK. Picturehouse Entertainment, the distribution arm of cinema chain Picturehouse, has secured the rights to broadcast the event to cinemas.
RSC artistic director Gregory Doran said: “Performances of some of the greatest dramatic scenes ever written, played by some of our greatest actors, will look and sound wonderful on the big screen, as will the songs, the comedy, the dances and the music that we are bringing together in Shakespeare’s home town. Watching it together with an audience in your own town should make it truly an evening to remember.”
Marc Allenby, director of distribution at Picturehouse Entertainment, described it as “a privilege to be working with the RSC in this special anniversary year on such a unique and culturally important event”.
Judi Dench, Ian McKellan, Joseph Fiennes, Rufus Wainwright, Tim Minchin, Al Murray, Meera Syal, Alison Moyet, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Paapa Essiedu, Pippa Nixon, Alexandra Gilbreath , Noma Dumezweni, The Royal Ballet and The Orchestra of the Swan will join David Tennant to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.
