A brief history of the character of Jessica Jones from the Marvel Comics Series:

While a teenager attending high school in Queens with Peter Parker (Spider-Man), Jessica Jones was in a car accident in which she was doused in chemicals and put into a coma. She lost her family but acquired superpowers. With hair dyed pink and using the codename Jewel, she battled criminals until Purple Man enslaved her mind. After losing a fight with the Avengers, Jessica fell into another coma until Jean Grey revived her, establishing mental defences for her against further mind control.

Jessica later opened her own detective agency specializing in cases involving superpowered beings, and she worked as a reporter for The Pulse, a supplement to the Daily Bugle. During this time she became the Knightress.

Jessica dated and then married Luke Cage with whom she had a baby girl, Danielle. She fled to Canada during the Civil War but returned to rejoin the Avengers when it was over.

As the Secret Invasion ended, a Skrull posing as Edwin Jarvis kidnapped Danielle, but Norman Osborn helped Luke rescue her. She hired Squirrel Girl as their nanny and later persuaded Luke to retire from the Avengers to dedicate himself to their family.
