BROADCHURCH: ITV Confirms That Meera Syal Has Joined Series 2 Cast

ITV have confirmed that the multi-talented actor, writer, producer and comedian Meera Syal will be among the new faces in series 2 of Broadchurch.

Best known from her appearances in Goodness Gracious Me and The Kumars, Meera is a familiar face to UK TV audiences, also appearing in Doctor Who, Holby City, Beautiful People and Horrible Histories. She also starred in the 2012 Royal Shakespeare Company production of Much Ado About Nothing as Beatrice. Meera previously worked with David Tennant back in 2001 on the BBC radio sitcom Double Income No Kids Yet.

Meera joins returning Broadchurch cast members David Tennant, Olivia Colman, Arthur Darvill, Andrew Buchan, Jodi Whittaker, Jonathan Bailey and Joe Sims, along with new additions Charlotte Rampling, Eve Myles, James D'Arcy and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. Beyond hinting that her role is 'pivotal', ITV have kept information under tight wraps, and next to nothing is known about the plot of the new series or the identities of the new characters.

Broadchurch series 2 is currently in production in the West Country with an expected air date early in 2015. Series creator Chris Chibnall said of his new cast, “We have another big story to tell this year, and that meant finding exceptional actors for new roles.”

The first series of Broadchurch dealt with the hunt for the killer of a young boy in a small seaside town. You can find out more on our website, along with news about series 2.
