David Tennant And Richard II Cast Collect For Actors' Charity

David Tennant and his fellow cast members from Richard II followed the matinee performance yesterday with a collection in aid of the actors' charity Acting For Others. David made a speech from the stage at the end of the performance at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon, then he and the other cast stood at the exit doors with collection buckets.

Acting for Others benefits those in the entertainment industry who may be  ill, injured or elderly and who can no longer work and now find themselves in need. It is made up of 15 individual theatrical charities – each with their own remit. Between them they offer financial and emotional assistance and support to those in the entertainment profession who have fallen on hard times. The member charities dispense over £2 million to hundreds of people within the profession every year.

For every successful performer, there are hundreds of actors, dancers, musicians, lighting technicians, scene painters, wardrobe staff, front of house, backstage staff who are not so fortunate. They may be suffering from illness, injury, be caring for a child with special needs, or have reached an age when they simply can no longer work to support themselves or make ends meet.

Richard II starring David Tennant and directed by Gregory Doran will play in residence in Stratford-upon-Avon until 16th November 2013 when it will then transfer to The Barbican in London.

The run is completely sold out, but there may be returns. You can check for returns by phoning the RSC Ticket Hotline on 0844 800 1110.
