Photos: David Tennant Hosts The BBC Audio Drama Awards

David Tennant hosted the BBC Audio Drama Awards at Broadcasting House in London last night. Photos have now started to appear from the event, which saw the likes of Vicky McClure, Andrew Scott and David Troughton receiving honours for their contributions to audio drama last year. Two productions that David worked on were honoured: Murray Gold received the Tinniswood Award for Best Radio Drama Script for Kafka The Musical while Believe It! won the Best Scripted Comedy section.

Speaking back in 2011 at the launch of the first awards, David said:
"The quality of our radio drama is one of the things that makes me proud to be British. Acting on the radio is challenging, inspiring, delicate and always a privilege. Radio drama is often overlooked and undervalued next to its showier younger siblings on the television and in the cinema, and yet it is on the wireless that so many important and brilliant talents have been discovered and nurtured. I am delighted radio drama is being celebrated in this way."

Of last night's awards, Alison Hindell, Head of Audio Drama, BBC said:
“It’s fantastic that the BBC is underlining its commitment to the unique genre of audio drama with these awards.  The fact that millions of people listen every day says something about how special it is and this evening is a wonderful way to celebrate the many different talents, both well-known and those at the start of their careers, that go into creating the programmes.”

The event was packed with celebrity guests and presenters, including Lenny Henry, Penelope Wilton, Stephen Mangan and Nicholas Parsons. David was pictured with another former Doctor Who star, Sylvester McCoy and also with the acting Director General of the BBC, Tim Davie
